Travel Planning

The Retreat Center is on a beautiful and historic 200-acre property 45 minutes from New York City. We suggest you arrive to the retreat center as early as you can on Friday. Check in begins at 1pm.

The retreat officially begins with dinner with your mentor group at 6pm on Friday. However we’re inviting you to come as early as 1pm to give yourself the gift of disconnecting and enjoying some quiet leisure in a wonderfully peaceful place. You’ll have the opportunity to sign up for in-person Spiritual Direction session (via the pre-retreat survey in google classroom) and/or unplug, rest and enjoy times of solitude in the beautifully peaceful grounds as you prepare yourself for the weekend ahead.

We will have a mixture of unhurried communal gatherings, worship, moments of silence, solitude, connection, fun, sharing meals together, time in your mentor groups and large group sharing as we celebrate what God has done in and through our lives during this SoF journey!

The retreat ends with a final session together that will conclude on Sunday by 10:30am. At this final session we’ll bring closure not just to the retreat but to the whole SoF journey together as we commission you for the journey ahead.

We encourage you to carpool or take public transportation with members of your group and/or mentors so you can enjoy some quality time together on your way to the retreat!

Folks have connected via their own mentor groups and the rest of the cohort via the cohort directory on google classroom to find travel adventure buddies, especially if you’re coming days early or staying later. NYC is a great place to explore!

We’re praying for you to finish the SoF journey well and continue to let God do the beautiful and redemptive work he loves to do in and through your life!

We can’t wait to see you in person!

Location + What To Bring

Check the weather a few days before your trip so you know what clothing to bring (think extra layers as weather can fluctuate this time of year). The retreat center will provide linens and towels.

  • ROOMS – The Retreat Center is a Catholic Seminary that is now primarily a retreat center. The rooms have a minimal set up and are not fully updated. However each room has their your own private bathroom and since we’re spending the majority of our time on the grounds and meeting spaces, people from past cohorts have thoroughly enjoyed their time here. Our hosts are wonderfully accommodating and so if there’s any special needs you have please let us know at SoF@newlife.nyc
  • AMENITIES – The retreat center has an indoor basketball court, fitness center and 200 acres to explore outside including views of the water, an outdoor amphitheater, hiking areas, large open fields and a fire pit (which we will make use of on Saturday night weather permitting!).
  • CLOTHING – Bring clothing that you can relax, play and walk around in comfortably (be mindful of the firepit smoke that may get on your clothes as you pack). Consider extra layers as the building can run cold.
  • COLD AND NOISE – The rooms can run cold at night depending on the weather. Each room has an extra blanket in the closet but if you tend to get cold at night, consider bringing extra layers for sleeping. Consider a sound machine if you need to drown out noise in the building.
  • BIBLE – Bring your Bible (we’ll provide you with a journal and pen).
  • WATER BOTTLE – Bring a refillable water bottle (we’ll provide water in the room as well)
  • TOILETRIES – Bring your own toiletries (linens and towels are provided)
  • EXTRAS – We will have bug spray available if you are concerned about being outdoors in grassy areas.

We will invite you to turn off your phones and unplug as much as you would like throughout the weekend and truly enjoy time alone in silence, in community and with God away from your day to day life.
